How do I identify a ‘bug’ I’ve found in my home?
Have you just found a strange-looking bug in your home and wondered what it is and whether it is harmful?
If you live in South East Queensland, you know insects will always be in and around your home, particularly in our hot, humid summers.
We all know that German cockroaches are small and numerous, Green ants have a painful bite, and Termites are just bad news. But what about that pile of debris in the bathroom, the scratching noise from the wall, or the insect biting you in bed?
You can check online
The first step is to identify the bug and determine its species. This can be done by examining the bug visually or taking a photo and comparing it with images online.

What does a termite look like?
This is probably the most frequent question we hear. Followed by, ‘Is this a white ant or a black ant?
It’s not as if they are commonly seen out in the open. They always operate in a concealed manner, travelling through their subterranean tunnels in the ground.

Difference between termites & black ants (termites)
Many homeowners get confused when identifying the difference between black ants and termites. In fact, people mistakenly refer to termites as “white ants”.
It’s understandable; they sort of look the same. They have six legs, antennas and operate within a social colony. But they are not the same insect. They are completely different in body shape and behaviour.
