Termites never want to be out in the open air
Termites are notorious for their love of traveling in safe and secure tunnels, otherwise known as “mud tubes”. These tunnels provide them with a dark and moist environment that they can thrive in.
When these tubes are disrupted, the worker termites quickly jump into action to repair the breach with a special compound made from a mixture of soil, timber, and their own saliva.
If you want to witness this fascinating phenomenon for yourself, check out a video of a significant termite infestation found under a house in West End, Brisbane.
In the below video, you can see firsthand how the termites frantically repair their broken mud leads with their unique mudding compound. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the world of these industrious insects.
