Termites (White Ants) found under a house in Salisbury, Brisbane.
You should not be surprised to read the above headline. Nearly every week, live termites are found eating the timbers inside homes in Salisbury and surrounding suburbs.
Why is the suburb of Salisbury a hot spot for termites?
The main reason homes are under pressure from termites in Salisbury is their proximity to the Toohey Forest Park and the Rocky Water Hole stream. The park is packed with trees harbouring termite nests that spread out and colonise surrounding areas. The creek runs through the heart of Salisbury and provides a constant level of moisture, a highly conducive environment for termites.
Add the aged design of the houses with their brick footing, plus most of them have no current chemical treatment to protect them from foraging termites.
This house was really under attack from Termites.
The house we referred to in the headline was being hammered by termites. The occupant hadn’t been getting under the house recently and didn’t realise they had termites until the toilet door fell off!
As soon as we got under the house where the laundry and garage were located, we could see six termite leads bridging up out of the ground and climbing up and over the ant capping to get into the timbers above.
The Termites also climbed and followed a wire up the brick wall to get into the house.
What is the solution to this Termite problem?
- As we advise all our customers, stay vigilant and regularly check for the signs of Termites.
- Have a current Termite Management System in place to stop termites from gaining entry into your home.
- Do annual Termite inspection.
The main reason homes get attacked by Termites is because nothing is in place to stop them. All suburbs have termites in Brisbane, but not all homes have the right protection.
