The roof void is an important place to check for termites.
It’s an area that few people go up into, its dark, dusty and hard to access. But it is important to inspect for evidence of termites annually.
Termites found in the roof!
Recently, we were asked by a homeowner in Brisbane to do a termite inspection as it had been a few years since it was thoroughly checked. They had no great concerns but just felt it was time.
As part of our termite inspection, we pop up into the roof to look for evidence of termites. We understand at the end of our inspections, homeowners wanted to hear the outcome to be “We found no visual evidence of termites”.
But in their case, the evidence of termites was very apparent. There was a large nest in a corner and plenty of termite workings on the timbers. In places, the whole rafter timbers were eaten and fell apart when touched!
