How often should termite treatments be topped up? Is it necessary?
Many customers ask if they need to top up their chemical termite treatments, and if so, how often?
Let’s start with a couple of facts:
- All gardens in Brisbane have foraging termites from several nests on or near the property.
- Your houses will get attacked by termites if there isn’t a current or appropriate termite management system in place.
How often should a termite treatment be done?
How often a house needs the chemical treatment to be replenished depends on the manufactures’ recommendation of the chemical that was applied.
The manufacturer provides a recommended replenishment cycle; if the label is followed correctly, the chemical should last the time specified on the bottle.
Non-repellent transfer products
- Termidor 8 years
- Altriset 6 years
- Premise 5 years
Repellent product
- Bilfex 5 to 10 years, depending on the application ratio
Dodgy and false information
Recently, customers have told us that their previous pest control company recommended an annual top-up of their termite treatment. This is ridiculous and ripping off the homeowners. There is no chemical on the market that specifies replenishment every 12 months.
As a homeowner, who can you trust?
You need to know that your termite technician is upfront with you. Sadly, some operators don’t know or purposely mislead you in our industry.
How to check
If you are unsure, ask to see the application instructions on the bottle of the chemical being used (just peel back the label that should be on the bottle). The pest controller is strictly required to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and application ratios.
If you’re not completely confident, you can always call the manufacturer directly:
