We are happy to report our technician, David Bell, survived this attack by a lone (but very malicious) soldier termite when inspecting a house in Brisbane recently.
Protection of the colony is one of the major roles soldier termites perform when there is a breach in the termite workings. They also direct the worker termites and sound an alarm when they feel under threat. They do this by knocking their heads on the timber, sending a vibration that other termites immediately understand. You’ll recognize this sound as a clicking noise. Check the below video.
