Dusting the roof void"
As someone who works for a pest control company you would think I would know exactly what needs to be done and when, but sometimes when it comes to your own home, you just forget or get too busy.
This morning our wonderful technician Alex visited to carry out pest control at my home in Salisbury, and as per usual I was in a hurry to get out the door and off to work so I was in a flurry and had forgotten all about our appointment.
Quickly, I asked Alex what, as a customer, can I get ready in preparation for a pest control treatment.
Here’s the list:
Put away any food and dishes in the kitchen
Pick up anything lying on the floor
If you have pets turn their bowls upside down or put them away
Keep animals tied up or enclosed in an area away from spraying
Where possible step outside with your kids in tow, whilst the technician works
Remove any clothes hanging on the line
Whilst it’s great to do these before the technician arrives, we totally understand you may also be time poor and in a rush and so, our lovely technicians will do their very best to work around any obstacles.
Placing gel in the kitchen
I often get asked what sorts of work the technicians will carry out during a pest control and my now very qualified answer is - dusting in your roof void (if it’s accessible), and behind appliances for cockroaches and silverfish, placing gel bait for ants and cockroaches in the cupboards in wet areas - kitchen, bathroom and laundry, spraying along the skirting boards throughout the house for cockroaches, ants and spiders, spraying the external perimeter of your home (usually at the base and top of walls) for cockroaches, ants and spiders, spraying any other known harbourage areas (such as small enclosures, awnings, outdoor cupboards etc) for spiders, cockroaches and ants.
Additional items that our technician could cover include any sheds, garages or pergolas if requested. If you think you may have an issue with rodents please let the technician know as he will also be able to place baited rodent stations during his visit. If the issue is a little more severe (for instance you may have chickens or other birds in your back yard which attract mice and rats) you might want to consider buying some large plastic lockable rodent stations which the technician will be able to source and install for you. One other item you can ask your technician about is any suspected termite activity, time permitting he will be able to do a termite check to any areas of concerns and if there is activity he will be able to give you directions on what to do next.
As a guide, I would recommend having your pest control done annually. A lot of our customers get an annual termite inspection at the same time and save themselves quite a few dollars as we discount the price when you do both the pest control and termite inspection at the same time.
