Sadly, many homeowners have been given a false sense of security about their new homes. A new Building Code, introduced in 2005, stipulates that if the concrete slab edge was exposed more than 75mm from the ground, the structure would able to be certified.

This is a very miss-leading notion. The 75mm separation certainly gives you a good visual area to detect termite entry, but obviously offers no preventative function. (see attached photo). Many homeowners and builders that have built to this code think they have termite proofed the new structure. Termites can easily bridge this gap.

In many cases, the only effective method to prevent this happening is to install a chemical treatment to the external perimeter. If you have concerns about your home and would like some free advice about this matter … Call us now on 3399 1226 – South or 3356 8801 – North
